Audition Technique
In Monday's Audition Technique class, we strive to help you develop good habits in your audition prep.
We aim to help you understand what it feels like to fully explore audition sides with your creativity. There's no point in moving on to a new set of sides until you have fully explored and broken down your current sides. We're not here to scratch the surface. At 1st Take Studios we want you to experience what it feels like to fully put your imprint on a character and scene.

Improvisation
Character Exploration through Improv is a unique class you WILL NOT find at other studios. The days of written backstories and imagination exercises are a little antiquated for the modern actor. At 1st Take Studios we want your backstory to be a LIVED EXPERIENCE. Tuesday evening class we help actors have a lived backstory that they can access when performing their scene study or audition scenes.

Scene Study
Our Wednesday Scene Study class is divided into four weeks.
Week 1: We don’t worry about the lines. Anyone (even non actors) can memorize lines. Our studio emphasizes the importance of understanding the author’s intent first and foremost. It’s only with a rich understanding of the piece that we can make informed decisions about our characters and scene

Week 2: We help students go line by line and make choices that 1) honor the needs of the story and 2) create a character that brings out their unique imprint on the piece.

Week 3: We combine our work from Week 1 (story and character analysis) and Week 2 (scene breakdown) and put it all together for a full run through (off book).

Week 4: We're off book. We throw away the all the work and trust ourselves to let our character come alive through us!

Once you have investigated all the beats and behavioral possibilities in a scene it’s important that you rehearse the scene over and over again till you feel comfortable that your choices are showing up in your work. This is a process that takes time. The more you practice, the more you will seamlessly actualize your choices and they will flow out of you instinctively more and more.
